This is My Life

Yesterday is a wrinkle on your forehead
Yesterday is a promise that you've broken
Don't close your eyes, don't close your eyes
This is your life and today is all you've got now
Yeah, and today is all you'll ever have
Don't close your eyes
Don't close your eyes

This is your life, are you who you want to be
This is your life, are you who you want to be
This is your life, is it everything you dreamed that it would be
When the world was younger and you had everything to lose

Yesterday is a kid in the corner
Yesterday is dead and over

This is your life, are you who you want to be
This is your life, are you who you want to be
This is your life, is it everything you dreamed that it would be
When the world was younger and you had everything to lose

Don't close your eyes
Don't close your eyes
Don't close your eyes
Don't close your eyes

This is your life are you who you want to be
This is your life are you who you want to be

This is your life, are you who you want to be
This is your life, are you who you want to be
This is your life, is it everything you dreamed it would be
When the world was younger and you had everything to lose

And you had everything to lose
Switchfoot~ This is Your Life
This song brings tears to my eyes. I'm not the person I want to be, nor do I know how to become that person. My life is everything I dreamed of but still a disappointment. In my dreams I always took my happiness for granted, as a given, but didn't account for the torment I feel trudging through the deep waters of each new day. If each day is all I have then I don't see the point in living another. This song emphasizes focus on the present and future, while letting the past go, all ideologies I need to embrace in my life. Unfortunately, without my past I don't know who I am, and I can't separate myself from it. I thrive on living in moments of the past. I feel as if I've already lost everything and have lost hope of a better day to come.

I think our pasts help define who we are, so I don't think there's any reason to forget or dismiss the past. Instead, we have to draw from those past experiences and use them as tools to learn and grow and make decisions to shape our present. No need to dwell or regret, but see if you can find the lessons. It might help make today easier.
